Posts have been scarce around here both because I’m preparing for NaNoWriMo, and because I can’t seem to find stuff to write about. The latter should be dealt with next month (not that I won’t have plenty work to do afterwards), but there’s no telling when the former will change. I’ve got a few postings in various states, and some ideas, but just can’t seem to get them to focus in my mind.
For NaNoWriMo I have two stories prepared.
Grey Enigmas, in the same setting as Grey Engines but set a century and a half later:
In a telepathic society where everyone has their inner snitch, crimes do not remain secret. So when a murder is committed without an obvious culprit, the authorities are at a loss. Their only recourse is an imprisoned detective.
Dreams of the Dead:
I don’t have a blurb for this one yet, but it’s tangential to the Tales of the Thief-City series. At the moment it’s looking like more of a novella than a novel.
Hopefully I’ll be able to produce more content in December.
I’ve written a guest post over on Bestsellerbound Recommends describing the writing process of Shadows of the Heavens.
As mentioned in previous installments, the Smashwords review procedure has been slightly erratic.
In an effort to get rid of the error message I finally changed the title so it exactly matches the sequence of the title on the cover. And it’s passed the review.
Which means that it no longer matches the other parts of the series. And that Smashwords’ review process fails 14 times out of 15.
It’s not what they failed it on that irritates me, it’s the inconsistency that they didn’t fail the other fourteen. Either they have a formalized review process that checks specific things, and that isn’t working, or they have reviewers who have their own reviewing standards. Or, more likely, different reviewers interpret the standards differently, and only one of these got caught by the one reviewer who interpreted them in this way.
But it is now dealt with, so now I just need to forget about it. Until the next thing to irritate me.
The collected edition of Shadows of the Heavens is out today in eBook and Print. The eBook will be $4.99 for the first week, before returning to the regular price of $5.99.
